CADO website and submission terms

Last updated: 2 November 2026.

These terms apply when you use the CADO website and map, or send us information about a building. By using the site or submitting a building, you agree to these terms. The terms are to be read alongside our privacy notice and criteria for uploading buildings.

1. About CADO

CADO (Communities Against Delinquent Ownership) is run by Kinship Works, the trading name of Kinship Project Limited. Kinship Works is a social purpose organisation working to support civic renewal and community-led development. Kinship Works is registered as a private limited company in England and Wales (company number 16458730), at 86-90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Kinship Works.

CADO maps buildings that have been empty or neglected for a long time and that matter to their communities. CADO exists to raise the profile of these buildings and to support people in their efforts to bring these buildings back into use.

2. Using the map

The map is a record of community concern about buildings. The map is being crowdsourced from public submissions, supported by a moderation process. It is not an official register of delinquent buildings and is not comprehensive. We do not recommend relying on the map for significant decisions, such as whether to buy, invest in or visit a building.

3. Acceptable use

You must not use CADO to:

  • harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, or contact owners or their families in a way likely to cause distress;

  • enter, occupy or damage any building, or encourage anyone else to;

  • collect data from the site by automated means in a way that runs contrary to the values of CADO;

  • target owners or contributors;

  • pretend to be someone you are not, or misrepresent your connection with a building;

  • upload any unlawful, harmful or malicious material; or

  • break any law.

We reserve the right to remove content, decline submissions, and block access if we believe someone has broken these rules.

4. Submitting a building

When you submit a building or an update, you confirm that:

  • the information is true to the best of your knowledge;

  • you didn’t trespass or put anyone at risk to get the information;

  • you haven’t included other people’s contact details, except where in connection to the purposes of CADO (e.g. a person who has consented to sharing contact details for a campaign to save a building);

  • you haven’t included other sensitive information;

  • you haven’t accused anyone of a crime or of wrongdoing;

  • you haven’t included confidential, leaked or unlawfully obtained information; and

  • you’re not submitting the building because of a personal dispute with its owner, a landlord or a neighbour.

We review all submissions before publication. We reserve the right to edit submissions, or publish partial submissions, or request more information, for the purposes of accuracy and consistency (e.g. consistent style and tone). We can’t promise to publish every submission or to reply in detail to every request.

5. Photos and other content you send us

Submitters retain the copyright to their photos and the written content of submissions.

By sending us materials, you give Kinship Works a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use them for CADO (e.g. to publish the materials on the map, in reports and in media coverage, to edit (e.g. cropping, or blurring faces and number plates), and to share them under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence).

When you upload a photo, you confirm that you took the photo or have permission to share it. Please avoid photos that show identifiable people, children, vehicle number plates. We reserve the right to crop, blur or decline any photo.

We credit photos as you choose, either using a name if requested or “CADO contributor”. If you ask us to remove a photo from the map, we’ll do so where we reasonably can. We can’t recall copies already shared under an open licence.

6. Sharing information

We don’t share information with developers, buyers, agents or organisations seeking to make a profit. In limited circumstances we may share ownership information from public records, such as a company’s name, with like-minded partner organisations working to support communities, or with campaigners working together to save a building.

We will never share your name or contact details without asking you first. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal information.

7. Corrections and complaints

If you own or are connected with a building on the map, think an entry is inaccurate or unfair, or have new information, use “Suggest an update” on the entry or email cado@kinship.works.

We’ll look at significant concerns as soon as possible, and within five working days, and may hide an entry while we verify a concern. If you own a building on the map and would like us to publish a response, such as an update on your plans for the building, you can send us up to 150 words, which we will publish (in line with our publication standards).

8. Our responsibility

CADO is a free public-interest service. We take care to keep the data accurate and available, but we can’t promise it will always be complete, current or free of errors.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss caused by relying on information on the map, or by other websites we link to.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

9. Changes

CADO is a new initiative and will adapt as we learn. We may update these terms, and will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects contributors, we’ll take reasonable steps to let them know.

10. Legal context

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
